The story unfolds in Friesland, recovering from a devastating catastrophe. No internet, no phones, no electricity—the land is divided into small kingdoms. In Harich, Queen Anke rules with an iron hand. Her daughter, Princess Mette, longs for freedom. During the annual Hynderdei, she must choose her horse. When the queen dies under suspicious circumstances and Mette is accused, she flees on horseback.
What follows is a journey full of emotion and adventure in the search for truth. Eventually, Mette returns to confront the situation and prove her innocence. Throughout the story, the Friesian horses play a central role: carriers of meaning, mirrors of emotion, and symbols of loyalty and freedom.
